24 apartments building in Passeig de Sant Joan, Barcelona

This building programme includes 24 apartments, 1 commercial area and 52 parking places. The original plot is the addition of the plot of two different buildings. The large one was protected and we maintained the old façade, both buildings were demolished and we preserved the façade of one of them.We did choose to design the new façade with a very different layout so as to respect the old one. The parking entrance is in the new one so as to preserve the old façade Both façades hide one building with only one staircase and elevators. The internal distribution is organized around a patio to lightthe internal side of the apartments.  In this patio a bridge connects both sides with the staircase and elevators. Weintended to have the interior of the building with natural daylight as much as possible. The ground floor has a commercial area; the ground floor extension is deeper towards the block interior. On the roof of the building there is a small swimming pool.

The central courtyard brings daylight to the interior side of the apartments. An opened bridge connects both sides of the building trying to interfere minimally in the courtyard.Three out of the four apartments in every floor are similar. The conservation of the old façade forces the internal division between the two apartments at the main façade. The design of the public area is symmetrical and does not reveal this difference. Our intention was to erase the old division between the previous buildings and to organize the distribution as a new final building.
